Marvin E. Hunnel, age 85 of Kearney, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery.Military Rites will be provided by the Kearney American Legion Post #52, Kearney V.F.W. Post #759, and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team.A Christian Wake Service will be Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at the St. James Catholic Church.Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.Memorials are planned to the Knights of Columbus T.V. Mass for shut ins, St. James Catholic Church Building Fund, or the Kearney Catholic High School Foundation. Marvin was born March 28, 1924 in Elm Creek to Lewis and Carrie (Weaver) Hunnel.He graduated from Kearney High School in 1942.Marvin enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served until 1946 then served from 1950 1952.He fought during WW II and Korea.He was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.Marvin married Maxine Sloan on November 30, 1946 in Elm Creek.He worked as a local truck driver for Fairmont, Swift Co., Fox, and DeKalb. He was member of the St. James Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Kearney V.F.W. Post #759, D.A.V., and the Kearney American Legion Post #52. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.His hobbies included gardening, fishing, hunting, camping, and watching and listening to Nebraska Cornhuskers and Creighton Blue Jays sporting events.
