Meryl M. Veit, age 81, of Kearney, died Friday January 8, 2010 at his home.Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 13, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Matt Koperski officiating.Burial will be at the Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna at 1:30 P.M.A Wake Service will be held Tuesday at 5:30 P.M. at the St. James Catholic Church.Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Service and prior to the service on Wednesday at the Church.Memorials are suggested to the St. James Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Service of Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Meryl was born October 6, 1928 in Ravenna to Max and Bess (Adam) Veit.He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1946. He married Carol Fiebig on April 15, 1950 in Pleasanton. He farmed south of Ravenna with his father.Due to health reasons Meryl retired from farming in 1963.Meryl then attended Grand Island School of Business.He then worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Kearney and Holmes Plumbing Supply.He also worked in the parts department for Speak and Killion Motors in Kearney, Big Johns Auto in Minden, and Luth Agri Automation.After retiring in 1993 Meryl stayed busy working part time at Enterprise car rental, Miracle Car Wash, and as a groundskeeper for the St. James Catholic Church.Meryl enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, friends, and wood working.He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus.Meryl enjoyed taking communion to church members that can?t attend church.
