Nevabelle Howe

Nevabelle Howe, 97, of Kearney, passed away May 26, 2026, at Brookestone Gardens Assisted Living in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, June 5, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Kearney with Pastor Matt Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Center Cemetery at Havens Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Nevabelle (Bridges) Howe, was born February 24, 1929, in Norman, Nebraska, to Roy C. Bridges and Ada L. (Preston) Bridges. She graduated from Minden High School in 1947. On April 23, 1950, she married Andrew “Andy” Howe in Kearney, Nebraska. Together, Nevabelle and Andy farmed north of Kearney in the Haven’s Chapel area, where they built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and community. Nevabelle and Andy enjoyed traveling the world together. She was always busy and often found fishing, golfing, baking cakes or her famous rolls. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, writing poetry and serving in their local Golden K Kiwanis Club. Nevabelle was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for decades and served in the local chapter of UMW and as the Gateway District Secretary of The United Methodist Women. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found joy in fellowship and service within her church family and in the community. Family was central to Nevabelle’s life. She made many memories fishing, baking bread, cookies and rock collecting on the country roads with her grandkids. She was always up for an adventure and was the best storyteller. Nevabelle will be remembered for her unrivalled determination, unwavering devotion to her family, church, and community. Her life reflected her steady faith, sense of adventure, and care for others—values that will continue through the generations she leaves behind. She is survived by her son, Keith Howe and his wife, Holly, of North Platte, NE; daughter-in-law, Dr. Janet (Weedin) Howe of Hastings, NE; grandchildren, Evan Howe and wife Megan of CA, Schuyler Howe of MN, Kathryn Robinson and husband Ryan of IL, Sarah Wolf and husband Chris of CO, Nathan Howe and Becca of Kearney, NE and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carroll, Marvin, and Clinton, husband Andrew Howe, and son Dr. David L. Howe.
