Rosalie M. Sheen

Rosalie M. Sheen, 85, of Kearney died July 24, 2014 at CountryHouse Residences of Grand Island. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 29 at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Gary Main will officiate and burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements. She was born January 8, 1929 in Kearney to Elmer and Ruth (Swanson) Mercer. She graduated from Kearney High School in 1946 and then attended Nebraska State Teacher’s College. Rosalie worked as a secretary at the Air Base. On October 8, 1950 she married Russell Sheen in Kearney. They resided in various cities until returning to Kearney in 1964. She was a homemaker, raised 5 children, worked part time at Kaufmann-Wernert and later was a tax preparer with H & R Block for over 30 years. She and Russell enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states and Europe, enjoyed square dancing, fishing, and spending time at their cabin at Johnson Lake. Her hobbies included golf, bridge, reading, puzzles, coffee with friends, and Husker Football. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Survivors include: Sons, Terry (Melanie) of Grand Island, David (Gwyn) of Bennington; Daughters, Kathy Fickenscher of North Platte, Deanna (David) Gee of Grand Island, Brenda Kingston of Kearney; Brother Richard (Alice) Mercer of Kearney, Sister-in-laws Wilma Jones of Kearney and Stella Mercer of Alabama. Grandchildren include Nicole (Gee) Jones and Grant, Angela Gee, Lacey Gee, Andrea Fickenscher, Nathan Fickenscher, Kelsey Sheen, Callie Sheen, Beau Sheen, Zachary Sheen, Rebecca Treinen, Michael Treinen, Joseph Treinen, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Jerry, two infant brothers, son-in-law Earl Fickenscher, grandson Corey Sheen, sister-in-laws Eileen Mercer and Helen Woodward, brother-in-laws Evert Schroer, Lowell Woodward and Ruben Jones.
